Do we need more cruise ships?

With all the last minute deals around on cruises at the moment it makes you wonder if the cruise lines are struggling to fill their ships this summer? Some of the prices are so low that you wonder how they are covering their costs. For example, Grand Princess on 23rd June, 14 night sailing to Iceland and the Fjords starts at just £499, that’s about £32 per night. Crazy! So I think that sort of answers my question really. One of my colleagues was looking at a caravan holiday in Devon during the summer holidays and the cost was £900 for just seven nights. I know what I would rather do.

However, despite this, there are many more new ships in the pipeline, 24 at this moment to be precise. The cruise lines put their orders in a few years ago while cruising was really booming and of course, the orders have to be honoured. I think this is going to impact more and more as time goes on as they will have to fill these ships so folks, watch this space. If the trend continues I think cruising is going to become cheaper than a wet weekend in Butlins almost. Good news for those of you looking for a deal over the next couple of years. You can always give me a call if you are planning a cruise, last minute or long term future plan. I am always happy to find a good deal for my clients, and I’m sure there are going to be plenty of those to be had for all.
And if you are looking for something completely different why not consider a River Cruise? Plenty of new ships there too!
