Thomson Cruises, sorry Marella Cruises as they are now called (bad habit), have released an update to one of their polices on board their ships. The policy relates to those taking small children on board. Now although I am not a parent myself, I would have thought that certain things are obvious to taking children on holiday.
The update on policy reads:
Dear Colleagues,
We wanted to advise you that due to health regulations, children who are not toilet trained- including those in swim nappies or pull-ups aren’t allowed in our on-board pools.
Kind regards
Does anyone else read this and think that this policy shouldn’t just be coming out now as this should have always been part of their policies from day 1.
In addition to this, is this not an obvious to any parent that this shouldn’t be happening? I know that there are swim nappies for small children which are waterproof both ways, and these are probably great for kids when teaching them to swim at your local pool. I am sure accidents can and do still happen, and this is where a cruise becomes different.
At your local swimming pool, they have vast facilities that can filter their pools to a very high level, and they can replace the water a lot more frequently then you could on a cruise. Limited space on board will mean that they cannot change the pool water every time a small child has an accident in there and would you want to swim in the pool after something rather unpleasant may or may not have been seen floating in there?
I would actually be very interested if anyone does actually know, how often a cruise ship changes the water in the pool. Do you think this is every cruise do you think, or more or less?
Actually, if we think about this too long, I don’t think anyone would ever go in a swimming pool again.
Let me know your thoughts
