What Will You Do In Rome?
Visiting Rome anytime soon? Will you be there for the day or are you intending to stop a little longer?
You don’t need me to tell you that there is so much to see and do in the Eternal City.
I was there a few weeks ago for a few days. When we arrived, Rome was in the middle of a heatwave – as was the majority of Europe I think. It was so hot!
We had already decided that we would visit The Vatican, The Coliseum and The Trevi Fountain – we just needed the most convenient way to get to these places and to buy the right tickets.
Everywhere you look there are kiosks selling different options of tickets, it was all very complicated, and I think that you have to be wary of fraudulent sellers as well.
We spoke to the very helpful receptionist at our hotel, She asked all the relevant questions, how long were we there? What was the most important place we wished to visit? etc. After a few minutes discussion we opted for the Hop on/off bus that would allow us to see some of the sights with a commentary, opportunities to get off the bus for a quick photo stop and when we wanted to a longer stop, we combined this with the skip the line tickets for the Vatican and the Coliseum.
What an excellent choice we made. We boarded the bus around the corner from our hotel and immediately we came face to face with ancient monuments, it was so exciting. We were booked on the 11.30 tour of The Vatican so when the bus arrived at the Vatican we got off and made our way to the meeting point – if there is one thing that you do – get a Skip The Line Pass – the queue was ridiculous but we just sailed on in. I have to say that when we met our guide and she said that it was a 3 to 3.5 hour tour, I thought – what, in this heat? But the time went so quickly. If you have never been, then you are missing out – it was fantastic.
If you are cruising either in or out of Rome then why not stay a little longer – take a couple of days to have a look around – you won’t be disappointed.
