Arrivederci Roma!! – and the rest of Italy as well!
Back down to earth with an almighty bump this week. I have just returned from one of the best breaks I have ever had.
This year, my Husband is celebrating a milestone birthday – ending in 0 and beginning with a 6, so we decided to spend some time in Italy with our Daughter’s and their Boyfriends, after our family had returned home we would then embark on a cruise and enjoy some r & r.
We started our Italian journey in Milan – what a beautiful city. The Duomo Cathedral is magnificent, apparently it took 6 centuries to complete! We managed to capture the facade as the sun was setting – a magical sight.
The following day, the menfolk decided to visit the iconic San Siro stadium, so it was time for us girls to hit the shops – Milan certainly has something for everyone.
We then travelled to Lake Garda. We have visited this area once before, but just for the day and what we experienced in that day made us want to go back for more. The train from Milan takes approximately 1 hour, the trains were clean and the carriages felt new. We had pre booked our transfer and arrived in Gardone Riviera late afternoon. Again, we were amazed by the stunning beauty of the area. The hotel was sat by the lake and the views from the balcony were amazing.
Whilst in the area we travelled to Bardolino, Salo and Sirmione. There is so much to see and do in this area and all easily accessible by road or ferry.
After a few days of enjoying this area we made our way to Venice, and it was HOT, HOT, HOT and BUSY, BUSY, BUSY.
I adore Venice, but I dont think I have ever seen it as busy. We stayed in a marvellous apartment, not too far from the Rialto Bridge. However, after all the sight seeing and hustle and bustle we decided to spend a day at the Lido – Venice’s own beach area – and we were so happy we chose to do this. We have said that the next time we go to Venice in the ” Summer ” we will definitely stay in this area as there are lots of hotels, shops , bars and restaurants and take the 40 minute Vaparetto into Venice.
I hope you like my pictures and next time I will tell you about our cruise on MSC Musica.
