My Trip on Independence – Part Deux

So day 2 of our trip began in Le Havre, Located in Normandy and where the River Seine meets the English Channel, Le Havre is great for those wanting to visit Paris, most cruise lines offer a late night departure on the mini cruises and as the City is  a 2 and a half hour drive away it is a port I would definitely recommend doing an excursion via the cruise line with so you don’t miss out.

We had decided we really wanted to experience the ship in full during our 2 night Cruise so remained on the ship when in Le Havre.

We headed to the Windjammer Café up on Deck 11 for Breakfast which is served in buffet style and it would be so hard to not find something that you like on offer, the variety and choice on offer was fantastic and the Made to order omelettes I would say are a must try whilst on board. The weather in Le Havre that morning was a complete contrast to the glorious sunshine we had left in Southampton, this meant that people weren’t rushing to get out and about so the Windjammer restaurant was very busy – if you prefer a more leisurely breakfast the main restaurants offer an a la carte option.

After breakfast it was time for my personal highlight of the ship the Access all areas Tour – on board these magnificent ships it’s very easy to forget you are out at sea, so it was great to visit the Engine control room, the bridge and the Galley and see how everything is run behind the scenes.  The executive chef took us for a tour of the Galley and the crew were fantastic in answering any questions we had – I would definitely recommend this tour on sea days which can be booked via guest services for $89 Per person.

All that walking had caused us to work up an appetite and it was down to the main restaurant for lunch – I wouldn’t normally have a 3 course lunch however I was just unable to decide which of the items I wanted so I sampled a few things of the menu all of which where delicious and I have to say throughout the Voyage I was so impressed with the quality of food on board.

We spent the afternoon exploring the facilities on board such as the Skypad, Escape room, New Racer Slides, Laser Tag and Flow Rider – So much to keep every generation of Cruiser entertained!

The second night of our sailing was formal night so we decided to change for the evening and catch the 4 pm showing of Grease – Prepare to be wowed by this experience which rivals that of a trip out the west end and best of all its all included in the cruise fare.

I would definitely sail with Royal Caribbean again and would love to experience independence on a slightly longer cruise, if you are looking for the perfect family-friendly ship then this one is sure to tick all the boxes!
