Last week I was lucky enough to Sail for 2 nights on board the newly refurbished Independence of the Seas.
Fresh from her 40$ Million Dollar makeover I was really excited to see what new features she had to offer.
As you would expect the Ship was fully booked to capacity as so many wanted to see what independence had to offer. Because of this some of the new features such as the Escape room and the Skypad where fully booked within the first few hours of embarkation – my top tip would be if you are looking to try out these fantastic new features ensure you book up nice and early to avoid disappointment
As the sun shone in Southampton we positioned ourselves with a cocktail and prepared to set sail – upon the Lido deck you will find the brand new Splashaway bay which is perfect for the little ones, Fish and Ships – for those little home comforts of Fish Chips and Mushy Peas for $9
The sail away party was great fun and everybody on Deck got in involved as we left Southampton
We opted for the first Sitting at dinner of 6pm – Normally I would opt for MyTime Dining as I love the flexibility it gives you of being able to eat when you want, having said that as we had the same table both evenings the Waiters were fantastic in remembering what we would like to drink and our names. With MyTime dining on some occasions you can be allocated a different table each evening which doesn’t have that personal touch.
The food on board independence was amazing in my opinion! We opted to try a few starters to share of course and for main the New York Strip steak which was cooked to perfection! The choice at dinner is incredible and you will be sure to find something you will like.
Following dinner we went to the Ice Show at Studio B – the multipurpose Studio Complex that converts into the Night Club late on. The Show really did have the WOW factor and featured a cast of professional skaters – I had never seen such an exciting rendition of Cotton Eyed Joe performed on ice… I wont go into too much detail but you really have to see this for yourself!
As we were looking to see as much as we could on our short cruise we also went to see The take that Experience in the main theatre for the late show – 10:45pm start and great fun to be had by all whilst singing along with Gary, Howard, Mark and even Robbie and Jason made a special Guest experience to provide a theatre experience you will never forget!
After a long day it was time to return to the Cabin for the evening, We were in a Spacious OceanView Balcony located on Deck 9 which could comfortably sleep a family of 4 and was indeed as the name suggests spacious and the beds on board I found very comfy
Keep an eye out for my blog Part 2 all about my trip on Independence of the Seas
