We have lots of expedition cruises and people who share a desire to see brown bears in their own environment not at the Zoo. I came across this report online this week however about a much more sinister set of stats on The worlds deadliest animals.
My question is would it stop you visiting a certain country?
before you answer read the blog and see which country comes out on top or should we say 6ft Down under?
some of the worlds deadliest animals have venom that’s thousands of times more toxic than Cyanide and can kill a human being within minutes.
Brown snakes, Funnel web spiders and the Blue- ringed Octopuses are among the animals that you would not want to mess with but lets see what a recent poll has ranked as the deadliest bite on Earth.
So you have been bitten… How much time do you have?
First Spiders:
there are over 40,000 species of spider and believe it or not most are venomous but, thankfully only a handful pose a threat to human life including the Sydney Funnel-Web spider its venom is 60 times stronger than Cyanide and will kill a human in 1-2 hours. their venum attacks the nervous system and stops the heart.
in fact Australia is home to the 20 of the worlds 25 most deadly animals including the Eastern brown snake which is responsible for the most snakebite deaths in Australia. its venom is 8,000 times stronger than Cyanide and can kill a human in around 1 hour. The venom has a coagulant that causes the blood in your veins and arteries to clot.
so should you give up that trip to the outback or should you swap the safari for a scuba expedition in Australia instead?
Well deadly animals live in Australian waters too like the blue-ringed Octopus its venom is 1,000 more toxic than Cyanide and will kill you within 20 minutes its saliva has the worst bacteria for humans to ingest.
The fastest acting venum on planet earth is the Australian Box Jelly fish or the sea wasp its not the most potent venum but encounter a bite and you are gone in 15 minutes. covered in tiny, venum loaded darts which shoot heart stopping toxins.
Remember you are more likely to be hit by a car than to be killed by venomous animals but let me ask you would it make you re-think Australia?
