I learned something new in the cruise industry this week….
Silverseas renowned for their small boutique luxury yacht like Vessels have cut their Silver Spirit ship in half and it seems size really does matter to the small ships as they have now gained an impressive 15 meters in the middle section of the ship.
when she was built in 2009 she could carry 540 passengers but when she finally emerges from Dry dock in Palermo she will have an increased capacity of 608 and cater for an additional 34 new sweets.
what the industry is super excited about is the refurbishment will have brought the luxury and splendor of the Silver Muse to life in this impressive multi million pound re-fit.
Is it new to cut a ship in half and have SilverSeas embarked on a new feet of engineering genius well this would make for a more dramatic blog however this is really routine surgery for today’s ship builders and it has been done many times in the past. She is however the first luxury line to undergo this type of operation.
I could not believe it took just for days to make the final cut and less than 24 hours later the new section of ship was inserted in the mid-section.
The real work now begins creating a brand new looking ship, Silverseas were able to donate lots of furnishings in Greece on their route through to the Fincantieri Ship Builders.
There will be a completely new dining experience on board so if you are looking for luxury and want to be positioned in the mid ship as so many of you do you will be staying in a brand new section of ship on this one.
Have you been on the Silver Spirit or the Muse?
Are you interested by ship re-fits as I am?
In an industry where so many company’s commission brand new vessels its encouraging to see this type of re-fit to a six star luxury cruise ship.
what are your thoughts on this?
