As per my previous blog on my review of Cagliari, I wanted to write a review on one of the hotels we stayed in called the T Hotel.
On Arrival at The T Hotel the most surprising element was the modern classical Tower. It’s very rare for hotels in Cagliari to have so many rooms in a modern day state of the art skyscraper. Through those revolving doors awaited a luxury experience so long as you like lush modern hotels. If you have arrived here expecting historical boutique quirky Italian style then I’m afraid you will need to visit a hotel closer to town.
The vast hotels interior with sweeping marble reception desk had 4- 5 members of staff serving at any given time. The staff were very polite and despite us arriving hours before checking in we only had to wait 30 minutes for our room.
We booked the hotel room rather late and as a result there were only suits available at a slight surcharge. What we weren’t expecting when we walked into our room was a two tiered mezzanine metropolis with double strength glass and metal staircase leading to our own luxury pad at the top of the stairs. Huge comfy but firm mattresses and a stunning modern green decor with mosaic tiled bathrooms awaited us. Three quarter length floor to ceiling windows set this room apart although the view from most of the rooms we saw were of the busy street in front with nothing that we have since learned about Cagliari being visible.
The Hotels spa facilities were something special and believe me, we are spa connoisseurs. (Haha)
You have to book the spa, as they want as few people as possible together for a more sensual experience. The moment we walked in you could smell the lavender scented candles. Helpful staff gave us two branded Egyptian cotton towels and rubbed them with a fragrant aroma therapy oil. We went through the green frosted glass doors and there was a state of the art massage pool and hydrotherapy Turkish bath with at least 6 different zones designed specifically to awaken and revive you in subtly different ways.
My personal favorite was the steam room with ever changing mood lit stars, I must say, you could really lose yourself here for 15 minutes at least.
As we had a suite, the spa was free as many times as you wanted to use it so long as you booked your time slot with lifts leading down directly to the spa. If you have any other room the spa is just €25 euros per person without treatments. If you are using the spa its worth inquiring about the additional costs of a suite upgrade.
I have to be very honest there was something very unexpected about a split-level suite with some wonderful extras such as tea and coffee making facilities but in all honesty the downstairs area for us became somewhat wasted space
The grounds of this hotel is extremely well utilised with ambient mood lighting and soft seating set over flowing waterways in the garden area. There is a large screen projector screen and light background music set perfectly to the changing light landscape.
What we realised after our dinner is that we could have dined outside which was completely secluded with nobody else around. Inside just the other side of the glazed wall was our restaurant for the evening. A fridge full of freshly caught Sardinian Fish allowed guests to pick their very own fish. I’m not a fish eater myself so decided to go for a starter of fresh penne pasta and Lamb with a green pesto reduction. It was lush and very nicely flavoured. The main course was Italian cured lamb finely sliced and potato gratin. This is a tricky one as from the description I was expecting lamb cutlets but very finely sliced lamb was plentiful on our plates. Perfectly cocked all be it in a slightly salty gravy sauce there was a noticeable lack of vegetable for is buy we are quite traditional and like veg with this type of meal. We had a glass of wine each and the cost was a total €60 euro. This was our first night in Cagliari and as we realised later in our trip the hotels food prices are at least double of the prices you can expect to pay locally.
There are taxis always waiting outside the hotel with inexpensive options directly into town approx costs around €7 remember although perhaps there are places to get a taxi home we simply did not see any taxi choices back home. The staff at the hotel have dedicated concierge who assist guests with everything they can expect from organising tours and recommendations as well as selling bus tickets during high season.
The hotel allows local emerging Sardinian artists to exhibit their work. In the time, we were there they had a different miniature beach huts and a huge one was erected in the lobby. If guests are interested in the art the hotel management refer the guest to the artist or their representative.
This Hotel was a fantastic experience and I would wholeheartedly recommend it but keep in mind it offers the creature comforts you get with a high end modern hotel the offset being its location is around 10-12 mins to the port, and Marina district by taxi or bus and around a 30 min walk up and down hills so you will need a taxi, car hire or bus.
