What’s Great About Britain in 2015 ?

As 2014 comes to an end, I have decided instead of looking back lets look forward. 2015 is going to be very exciting for Britain and the cruise industry we have a very special anniversary, new ships departing from the UK, new itineraries and much more.

Firstly P&O are launching their new cruise ship, Britannia in March 2015. The brand new 3600 passenger cruise ship will have a christening party that will take place in Southampton, (I hope to be there) and the ship will be sailing from the city throughout the year to the Mediterranean, the Norwegian fjords and around the British Isles.

Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas arrives in Southampton a few weeks later.

Hi-tech innovations promise passengers should be in their cabins within 15 minutes of arriving at the terminal, tracking their luggage on a mobile phone app.

En route to the Mediterranean, guests can drive dodgem cars, experience a sky-diving simulator or take a ride above the waves in North Star. Guests will be able to watch West End musical We Will Rock You in the main theatre and choose from 18 restaurants.

Robots will create a ballet from LED screens in the Two70 entertainment palace and mix drinks in the Bionic Bar.

Passengers in inside cabins won’t miss out on a sea view, either, thanks to full-length screens creating virtual balconies showing real-time images from outside the ship.

Anthem will be sailing from the UK throughout the summer of 2015.

There is so much to look forward to in 2015, I possibly couldn’t mention everything. However it would certainly be wrong if I did not mention Cunard’s 175 years Anniversary. Founded in 1840 Cunard has the richest tradition of all, and is very proud of it’s history. To mark the 175th anniversary of its first ship, Britannia, setting sail in July 1840. Britannia inaugurated the first-ever regularly-scheduled service across the Atlantic.

Cunard’s flagship Queen Mary 2 will recreate history when she sails from Liverpool on 4 July 2015, following in the wake of Britannia which left the city 175 years earlier to the day. This will also be the first time since January 1968 that a Cunard ship has departed from Liverpool for America.

To Celebrate, Cunard will have various special anniversary cruises in 2015. The biggest celebration of all has to be in Liverpool, where the three queens will meet during 24th -26th May.

Cunard was founded in the city of Liverpool and the company’s Head Office remained there for 128 years until 1967. Today the magnificent Cunard Building forms one third of the World-Heritage-listed ‘Three Graces’ on the Pier Head. It is fitting, therefore, that 175 years after the inauguration of Cunard’s transatlantic service from Liverpool, the current fleet salutes the company’s ‘spiritual’ home. From 24 to 26 May 2015, Liverpool will play host to the three largest Cunard ships ever built in an historic, news-making, head-turning three-day event.

Queen Mary 2 will arrive in Liverpool on Sunday 24 May and make her first ever overnight stay in the city, berthed in sight of the Cunard Building. The following morning, on Monday 25 May, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria will sail into the city and for a time all three ships of the Cunard fleet will line up on the Mersey in a spectacle that is expected to draw huge crowds. Over a million people saw QE2 sail into Liverpool for the first time in July 1990.
