Last Friday Cruise.co.uk was on on-board Queen Mary 2, for a 3 night Christmas conference.
We had staff from all over Britain, making there way to Southampton by coach, car, train or plane. Personally I booked a flight from Manchester with Flybe.
My heading says “Naked On Board QM2” as this is what Flybe expected me to be. The flight was pleasant enough and I arrived at Southampton on time. However my luggage did not. 🙁
Not to worry thought as there were 2 other flights to Southampton, my luggage could get on. However due to the incompetence of Flybe be my luggage also missed those flights, meaning I was told at 2.30pm I had no luggage for my trip. Further more Flybe put the fault down to me being on a connecting flight, although I wasn’t. I quickly made a trip to Southampton town and bought all new clothes and essentials.
Once on-board Cunard was exactly what I imagined before sailing with them. Grand, Luxury, Stylish are just a few words that come to mind. I was greeted in my cabin with a nice bottle of champagne in a bucket of ice.
All over the ship she was full of beautiful Christmas decorations, trees and stunning displays throughout.
I had an ocean view cabin at the front of deck 4. The cabin it self was good in size and had everything you would require. However the location being at the very front, I wouldn’t recommended. The main dining room, Britannia Restaurant was at the opposite end of the ship, and anybody with walking difficulties would struggle.
On the top deck there is plenty of space and in nice weather you wouldn’t struggle to find a spot to do some sun bathing, or take a visit at the the pool or outside hot tub.
Queen Mary 2 is an ocean liner and was purpose built for the transatlantic crossings to New York. So stability wise you will struggle to find much better. There is plenty to do on board you could visit Canyon Ranch Spa, Royal Court Theater, first Planetarium at sea, Illuminations, or even just sit back and take in the general ambiance of being on board.
Overall I had a fantastic time on board, the dining, staff and service is exactly what you become accustomed to on Cunard, and it did not disappoint on any level.
