As I may of mentioned over the last few weeks, I was travelling on a River Cruise with APT on the Tulip Time itinerary. I departed on Tuesday 21st April and returned last Saturday 25th April.
APT (Australian Pacific Touring) are a 5* Luxury River Cruise Line. They offer itineraries around the world including Europe, USA, Canada (Alaska), South America, India, Far East, Australia, New Zealand and more.
I was fortunate enough to be departing on the Tulip Time Itinerary from Gent to Amsterdam on board MS AMAVerde. With a capacity of 161 passengers and spanning 4 decks it is small, intimate and luxurious.
The available cabins on-board are a window cabin, french balcony, twin balcony cabins and Owners Suites.

Double Ocean View

Twin Balcony
A single cabin is available on-board and I would would recommend a river cruise to any single passenger. However any disabled passengers with difficulty walking may struggle. There is a lift on board however this only services 2 of the 4 decks. You will also need to be able to embark and disembark the ship, along with the guided tours each day. I would say river cruises don’t really cater for passengers with severe mobility needs or in a wheelchair.
On-board I can only describe as luxurious, well presented, quality food and amazing staff. Nothing is to much trouble and if they can cater for your needs they will. There is 2 restaurants, the main and specialty restaurant. The specialty restaurant holds approximately 25 passengers and is set at the rear of the ship, with some fantastic views, and watch while the chefs prepare your dinner.
Take a look at some of the food that was prepared in both restaurants.
Other facilities on-board are a small gym, sauna room, and a massage, hair and beauty salon.
On the top deck (Sun Deck) is a large open space to sunbathe, play chess or take a dip on the pool.
As for the itinerary it was a brilliant way to see each town/city with a fully guided tour. You wear a voice box so you can hear your guide at all times. As you walk around they talk about the history and culture of their town, you also have some free time to do some shopping. For those with limited mobility you can join a different group who take a slower place but still get to enjoy all the sightseeing tours.
We visited Gent, Bruges, Williamstead, Kinderdijk, Amsterdam and the famous Kuerkenhof Gardens. Although I have visited Bruges and Amsterdam before I have certainly come back knowing more about the places due to the guides.
Overall my experience was amazing, educational and unforgettable. The other passengers on-board was welcoming, friendly and it was a pleasure to sail with them all. APT = A Personal Touch ? It certainly was.
