This follows on from last week’s blog!
Last week I was talking about Celebrity Century and the last ever sailing date of 5th April 2015. Take a read here http://www.cruise.co.uk/cruise-blogs/cruiseahoyadam/2014/09/23/say-farewell-to-celebrity-century/
Celebrity Century has been sold by Celebrity Cruises to a Chinese company. I was saying what a dying age it has become for the smaller cruise ships. Bigger seems to be better as far as the cruise lines are concerned, with more and more ships being built larger than ever before.
Now Princess cruises have announced plans are being put in place, to sell the smaller Ocean Princess. The 688-passenger vessel was built in 1999 and joined Princess Cruises 14 years ago. Ocean Princess will be replaced with a brand new 3,600 passenger ship in 2017. Sister ship to Royal and Regal Princess.
The new 3,600 passenger vessel is over 5 times bigger than Ocean Princess and again I would like to ask, is bigger, better?
Would you like to sail on a smaller ship? Or are you happy the cruise lines are all launching much larger cruise ships?
Either way cruise holidays are becoming more and more popular, and cruise lines are trying to respond by building bigger and better ships.
