Disney Reveal Plans For Another Cruise Ship at D23!

Disney  announce another new ship to be built at D23. That’s now 3 on order all to be delivered by 2023!

Speaking at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. Chapek said the additional ship would arrive in 2022. That’s right in between the two other vessels Disney already has on order for delivery in 2021 and 2023.

The US entertainment giant’s cruise ship fleet will have nearly doubled in size when the trio of new vessels enter service by 2023.

The line announced a deal last year with German shipyard Meyer Werft for two new ships. At 135,000 tons, they will be slightly larger than the newest Disney Cruise Line ships Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy.

All ship names, design plans and itineraries are still in development, with each of the ships expected to have their own “unique experiences”.

The three new 1,250-cabin ships will be powered by clean-burning liquefied natural gas.

Disney Cruise Line started operating in 1998 and now runs a fleet of four ships.

“We decided two ships wouldn’t be enough to hold all of the exciting new experiences we have been dreaming up to take family cruise vacations to a whole new level,” Chapek said.

As chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Chapek oversees Disney Cruise Line as well as Disney’s 12 theme parks, dozens of resort hotels and the Disney Vacation Club. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company.

The newly announced Disney ship will be built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. It’s the same shipyard that is building the two previously announced vessels.

While the design of the new ships still is under development, Disney has said they will measure approximately 135,000 tons. That’s slightly larger than Disney’s two newest vessels, Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, which measure 130,000 tons. Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy debuted in 2011 and 2012, respectively.

Chapek on Saturday promised ships with “immersive Disney storytelling, world-class family entertainment, and imaginative innovations that are fantastically fun and uniquely Disney.”

What are your thoughts on the third new ship to be developed? More and more cruise lines are announcing new ships, can they all be filled? Will the prices have to be reduced? Or perhaps they need to go all-inclusive like Norwegian Cruise Lines have done recently?
