Cruise Lines Cancel Port of Nice After Terror Attack

Two US cruise lines cancelled calls in Nice in the wake of the terror attack.

Nice

Royal Caribbean International said that its 3,114-passenger Navigator of the Seas would spend the day at sea instead of visiting Nice as planned.

Celebrity Cruises’ 2,038-passenger Celebrity Constellation was spending Saturday at sea instead of visiting the city.

Several other cruise lines that call at nearby ports in Cannes and Monaco were going ahead with stops but dropping shore excursions to Nice including Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings-owned Norwegian Cruise Line, Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Cruises.

“At all three NCLH brands, the safety and security of our guests and crew is paramount,” the company said.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we have suspended all shore excursions to Nice and implemented enhanced security measures for all ships operating in French ports.”

P&O Cruises cancelled trips to Nice from the ship Ventura on a call to Cannes on Friday.

More than 80 people died when an attacker drove a lorry into people celebrating Bastille Day along the city’s iconic Promenade des Anglais on Thursday.

Eighty-five people remain in hospital, 18 of them in critical condition.

This is not the first port to be dropped, recently cruise lines have stopped all calls in to Istanbul due to terror attacks. With continued caution at other ports around Europe.

Would this stop you from travelling on a cruise? Would you be more cautious in the ports selected? Or do you think this could happen anywhere so travel regardless?
