Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Solstice is due to undergo an $8.5 million revamp, this will include an outdoor film screen.
The vessel will be the first in the Solstice class to show films designed to reflect specific cultures and destinations, with food that brings the scenes on the screen to life.
The ‘Taste of Film’ offering will take place on the ship’s Lawn Club.
Alcove-style cabanas will line the real grass lawn for additional seating as part of the refurbishment which is taking place next month.
A new menu, curated by sushi chef Yoshikazu “Yoshi” Okada, will feature at Sushi on Five, including hand-rolled sushi, fresh tableside grated wasabi, house-made soy sauce, Asian-inspired cocktails, Japanese beers and sakes.
A new photo gallery will include 25 touch screen kiosks where passengers will be able to download purchased photos direct to mobile devices to share via social media, email or messaging.
An art gallery will replace the current photo gallery.
Suites will be enhanced with new patio furniture added to balconies.
The ship is scheduled to enter dry dock in Singapore on 22 October 2016, and will emerge on 31 October 2016. The revitalised ship will arrive just in time for the transition into Australia’s summer season, featuring a series of itineraries, including stops in New Zealand, the exotic escape of Indonesia, and to sought-after ports of call across Australia.
Celebrity Cruises’ president and chief executive, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, said: “When discussions began about what we could do to further enhance the already stunning ‘Solsticized’ ship, we couldn’t think of a better way to delight guests than to offer the multi-sensory A Taste of Film experience, Sushi on Five, the savvy new art gallery, and all of the other glimmering finishes. We are offering a truly distinct experience.”
