Not so Dynamic Dining!

Last week Royal Caribbean announced a few changes that will be happening with tipping, WiFi and Dynamic Dining on Anthem of the Seas. You can read about them here.

They have taken the decision to scrap the Dynamic Dining concept on Anthem of the Seas. I can only assume that the system has not gone down too well with guests on board. I experienced this way of dining when I was on Quantum of the Seas and I actually thought it was great. There are 4 A la Carte restaurants to choose from with varied menus and the food I ate was top notch. The restaurants were much more intimate than the huge dining rooms on most ships and had a real feeling that you were dining out.

My favourite was the Silk restaurant where I had the most divine Vietnamese food & The Grande restaurant which serves as the formal night with its palatial décor & high class food with the opportunity to get really dressed up.

When dynamic dining was first introduced some people found it hard to grasp. I advised all my customers to book their choice of restaurants as soon as they could and then if they changed their plans they could just chop & change once on board. It does create a little extra work prior to the cruise, but in my experience well worth it to get the times & restaurants of your choice. It seems that many people didn’t bother to do this and were disappointed when the just turned up at a restaurant to be told that either there would be a long wait or no availability at all.

What I don’t understand is why they are only changing it on Anthem of the Seas and not on the other 2 Quantum Class ships, the Quantum & Ovation? Surely if it’s not working they should change the dining across all the ships. The other thing that puzzles me is that the ship does not have the large restaurants that are traditionally used for 1st & 2nd sitting dining so where will people be dining?

The change is due to happen at the end of this month so I guess it’s a case of watch this space.

Have you experienced dynamic dining? I’d love to know what you thought of it. Please leave a comment.
