Krabi

Arriving in Krabi our first impressions were a bit disappointing. It’s a nice enough place but after the picturesque Phi Phi we found it too built up for our tastes.

We spent the First day exploring the town and found a Thai treasure “Thai Green Curry Pizza” It was amazing!!

We had heard from friends on Phi Phi that a visit to the Emerald Pool and the hot springs is a must in Krabi so we found a local agent and booked an excursion for the following day.

The trip had three parts, the first is a visit to the Tiger Temple. Thankfully we had been pre warned that to reach the temple you have to climb 1237 steps and when I say steps you have to bear in mind that each step is about a foot high. So we gave that one a miss and relaxed at the bottom reading our books!

After a couple of hours waiting for the rest of the group to return from their jaunt up the mountain we set off to the Klong Thom district for the Mineral hot waterfall. The springs reach temperatures of 50 – 60c and originate from the Khao Nor Jji Forest. It is an amazing place, when you first jump in to the river it’s really cold but as you reach the waterfall it’s like being in a hot bath/Shower all rolled in to one!

Once we managed to drag ourselves away from the hot springs we headed 40 minutes away to the Emerald pool also known as the crystal lake. Set deep in the Khao Nor Jji this really is a natural wonder. The natural springs create crystal clear waters and you have the opportunity to swim in the most beautiful surroundings

The tour was a bit off the beaten track but I’m so glad we did it as we experienced some beautiful places.

We decided we had seen everything we wanted too in Krabi and Gra had a suggestion. As we were on the mainland why not head up the national park of Khao Sok and experience more of the rainforest before going back on to the islands. Well I was in so off we went…
