So after the Hurricanes in the Caribbean it was our turn this weekend with Storm Brian causing disruptions to several cruises over the weekend.sweeping across Ireland and the U.K. with Orange and Yellow weather warnings in place, Brian forceded three cruise ships to make itinerary alterations — including P&O Cruises’ Aurora and Azura, and Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas.
Aurora was due to leave Southampton on October 20, on a two-night mini cruise with one call in Zeebrugge , which was cancelled. As a result, the 2,000-passenger ship bobbed around the North sea for 2 days on a cruise to nowhere
The 3,096-passenger Azura was also due to leave Southampton on October 20, but instead stayed in port overnight and departed on a shortened 13-night repositioning sailing to Madeira and the Caribbean on October 21.
In a statement, P&O confirmed the changes: “Unfortunately Aurora was unable to get into Zeebrugge today due to very high winds.
“Azura stayed overnight in Southampton last night to avoid the weather front and will leave this evening to reposition to the Caribbean.”
Independence departed depart Southampton later than scheduled, October 21, on a three-night Taste Of Paris & Bruges cruise.
RCCL has revealed that the ship will now operate a reverse itinerary to avoid the adverse weather conditions, calling at Le Havre on October 22 and Zeebrugge on October 23.
Were you effected by the weather and forced to stay out at sea, let us know your stories.
