Royal Caribbean Begin Work On Second Icon Class Ship

Royal Caribbean Begin Work On Second Icon Class Ship

Arriving in 2025, work has officially begun on Royal Caribbean International’s eagerly-awaited second Icon-class cruise ship.

The start of the new ship’s production was marked with a steel-cutting ceremony in Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, where the first piece of the ship’s steel was cut for the next addition to the cruise line’s revolutionary Icon Class. All of the Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku teams involved in building the ship were in attendance at the traditional ceremony.

The newest ship from Royal Caribbean International is yet to be named, but will set sail in 2025, following the debut of Icon of the Seas in January 2024. A third Icon Class ship is also expected in 2026.

This major milestone in the journey of a new ship represents the official start in production, kickstarting a series of key moments in the design and construction- spanning months and involving thousands of innovators across design, naval engineering, architecture and many more.

Royal Caribbean’s next ship will join Icon of the Seas in introducing a new era of holidays for many years to come, with each ship combining the very best of all vacation types: from resort getaways, to beach escapes and theme park adventures. Their aim is to ensure that every traveller can make memories, both together and alone- without compromise.

When revealed in October 2022, the first look at Icon Class made headlines, and the resounding feedback resulted in Royal Caribbean International’s single largest booking day in its 53-year history.

As part of the reveal for Icon of the Seas, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, Jason Liberty, said, “With each new ship, we raise the bar in the travel industry while enhancing what our guests know and love.

From the moment they step on board, every experience is specifically designed to give them the best vacation anywhere on land and at sea.”

More details about the latest addition to the Royal Caribbean fleet will be revealed at a later date. So, keep an eye out for more updates on the newest Icon Class ship!
