Celebrity Cruises has just revealed the decision to name its second Edge-class cruise ship, Celebrity Apex.
The naming was made official during a steel cutting for the ship at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard (formerly STX France) in Saint-Nazaire, France.
“Welcoming Celebrity Apex into our family with the leadership team was a very special moment, especially when we all signed the ship silhouette cut from the first piece of steel,” said president and CEO of Celebrity Cruises, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo.
“The success and momentum for Celebrity Edge has been incredible, and with Celebrity Apex we will yet again show how we are taking our brand to the next level.”
Celebrity Apex was previously expected to be named Celebrity Beyond and is scheduled to debut in spring 2020.
A third and fourth Edge-class ship are scheduled for fall 2021 and fall 2022 whilst Celebrity Edge will launch December 2018 as the first ship in the line’s new edge class.
It will feature “infinite balconies” in which the balcony can transform from an outdoor space to an indoor one with the touch of a button.
Another game-changing feature will be a moveable platform called the Magic Carpet, located along the outside of the ship; it can double as a tender station, restaurant or bar.
