MSC Private Island Setbacks – Now To Open In December

MSC Private Island Setbacks – Now To Open In December

MSC Cruises have yet again had to delay the opening of their private island, Ocean Cay Marine Reserve.

The news comes after an anticipated delay on Tuesday, moving the opening date from 9th November to 20th November. Now the launch has been pushed back to the 5th December.

These delays come over concerns the private island is not yet ready to host guests. Hurricane Dorian, that demolished the Bahamas this past August, has created issues on the island and for the 600 workers preparing the island.

All ships scheduled to visit Ocean Cay before the 5th December will either be re-routed to another Caribbean island or be spending an extra day at sea. Guests will be compensated for their missed call at Ocean Cay, an MSC spokesperson said.

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve – 65 miles off the coast of Miami – is said to be taking sustainability ‘seriously’.

Speaking onboard MSC Grandiosa, Antonio Paradiso, MSC UK and Ireland Managing Director said “We have had hundreds of people planting the trees on the island and a coral keeper who is in charge of restoring the coral to help bring the fish back.”  “We are bringing back nature.”

“The idea is to show our customers the natural beauty of a bohemian island” he said.

All MSC sailings from Miami, on a Caribbean itinerary. Will call at Ocean Cay from 5th December.
